Meet the Sidekicks

This is the official introduction to my sidekicks, Seren & Starfox. I had been obsessing over Corgis for awhile. Something about their short little legs and big pointy ears just gets me. I knew as soon as I moved into my own apartment, that adopting one was one of the first things I was going to do. Only problem was, there were no Corgis to adopt. Buying one from a pet store was out of the question, so it seemed that I had to put off getting a new addition to the family.

Fast forward 5 months. I am now the proud owner of two adorable Corgi mixes. Seren, meaning “Star” in Welsh (she is a welsh Corgi after all) is about a year old and came to us all the way from South Carolina. We think she’s a Cardigan mix. Very shy and timid at first, but is very loyal and will do anything to please you once you gain her trust…or have food. When she looks at me with those eyes of hers I just melt. And don’t let her timidness fool you, her confident herding instincts take over at the dog park and she wastes no time rounding up the big dogs almost three times her size.

Two months later, adopt-a-pet.com sent an alert matching my criteria. I had forgotten to take myself off the mailing list now that we had found our furry friend. But once I checked out the picture of 4 month old Happy, the Corgi/Shetland Sheepdog mix, we just couldn’t pass him up. We adopted him from Hope Animal Rescue the following week. This bundle of energy is not afraid of anything and thinks he’s one of the big dogs. Nothing phases him, and he’s completely adorable when he’s not being a little trouble maker. He bothers his older sister 24/7 and she has to put him in his place every once in awhile. We were going to rename him Corgi (because I felt that it was such an unoriginal name that it became original and I couldn’t name Seren that because in my head it was a boys name), but since his face is definitely a Sheltie mug, it didn’t seem to fit right. Then it was between Starfox(after an old video game and because he resembled a fox) or Swift(the fox from David the Gnome. I told you I was geeky, lol). In the end, we felt that Starfox suited him better.

We are now one big happy family, and although I wish I could adopt every dog out there, I think my hands are full with these two wild & crazy kids.

Stephanie Madeline - Julie, yes we definitely think she’s a Cardigan, but mixed something else because her hair is so course and short. Wondering if those DNA tests really work, lol.

Julie - Hi, I came to your blog via Blue Amrich’s and the 52 week project. I saw your ear post and though “Loveit” and “that’s a corgi!” Seren might be a “Pink”, or ee Red CWC. She certainly looks like a CWC. (I have a CWC named Bug!)
